Evaluation Process:

A comprehensive speech and language evaluation assesses all areas of communication to determine your child's strengths and areas of need. Our thorough and individualized evaluations assess articulation/phonology, fluency, receptive and expressive language, voice, motor speech, oral motor skills, and social/pragmatic language. We are proud to have a library of current diagnostic tests that allow us to assess a wide range of speech and language skills.

The evaluation process may take anywhere from 2-4 sessions/hours depending on your child's participation and results. If necessary, we will provide you with outside referrals to other specialists if we feel there is a concern that we cannot address.

The evaluation process consists of the following areas:

  • Parent interview

  • Review of records and/or developmental history

  • Speaking and listening tasks using picture test books, observations, and other formal and informal assessment measures

  • Play

  • Baseline data collection

  • Detailed report + treatment plan

  • Referrals + recommendations

  • Post assessment parent discussion to review assessment results/report

Treatment Process:

Speech therapy requires a unique and special relationship between the family and the therapist that is built on a weekly commitment to attend therapy and participate in the fun activities planned by your therapist. Your BASS therapist is dedicated to exploring your child's strengths and learning profile while targeting scaffolded and developmentally appropriate goals to meet your child's specific needs. The treatment sessions are 1:1 individualized, play-based, and data-driven to effectively measure your child’s progress.

The length and duration of therapy depends on your child's learning style, sensory/behavioral needs, family needs and support, and level of engagement. Our therapy sessions are 30, 45, or 60 minutes long and our treatment plans are written for a 6 month period.

Caregivers are welcome to participate in the sessions or enjoy some alone time and join at the end of the session to allow for a discussion of current treatment approaches, progress, and home recommendations.
